Enfleurage is in ages-oldperfumery technique used to extract essential oils from delicate flowers. The process, although perfected and popularized in 18th century France, has deep roots in ancient Egypt and is particularly suited for flowers that are too fragile for more intense extraction methods, such as distillation. I tend to follow the cold enfleurage process, using plant or animal fats, and foraging, and replacing flower petals every couple of days until I reach a saturation point determined by both nose and intuition. Though enfleurage is a somewhat labor-intensive and time-consuming process, it produces a high-quality pomade with a true, pure representation of the flowers fragrance. I truly enjoy every aspect of this ancient form.
